In the beginning, there was a blog...

I am attempting to follow a long historical line of artists, writers, and singers that find art as the outlet and expression of their lives during times of distress and depression. My first assumption is that this historical illness is succored by art.

Only time will tell how well this form of expression will help with distress caused simply by brain chemicals gone awry. Is that why these melancholy souls poured out their internal and external observations on artistic canvases? Is depression and art even related, or is it just coincidence that they went hand in hand throughout the ages?

This is my little experiment.
